"A house without a dog, is like a body without a heart".
For the both of us dogs always have had a special place in our lives. One of us always had a loyal dog at his side since childhood, the other has been active since a teenager in dogsports.
At the end of 2005 we went to the Winner Dogshow in Amsterdam for the first time. Just to see what different breeds there were. We both were keen on owning a dog but had our own idea what type of breed we wanted to have at our side. Till we laid eyes on the Irish Setters, their friendly character their unstoppable waging tails, but especially their royal appearance immediately stole both our hearts.
Unfortunately we lived in the centre of Amsterdam on the third floor of an old building without an elevator. To come to the front door of our apartment you had to take three steep and narrow stairs. Having a gundog was nothing for us, not there, no way! But like all good things they stay on your mind and the urge kept growing, our desire for the Irish Setter was getting stronger.
A year later we went again to Netherlands biggest dogshow and our hearts started racing at the sight of the Irish Setters, this time emotion stepped in front of reason .Any argument for not having an Irish Setter on our side went up in smoke and when one of those Reds wanted to lie on our laps we knew it for sure.... There we were madly in love with those red devils and we were not realising this was the start of a whole new life for the both of us.
There stared our search for our own Irish Setter, this became our Meagan. And what about those stairs? Well we carried our little pup up and down the stairs even when she was a full grown lady, without any comments five, six times a day.
What we also not realised at the Winner Dogshow on that Sunday afternoon is that we were going to make some dear friendships because of mutual love for this breed. Friends who shown us also another Setter variety, the English Setter. After living in Amsterdam for two more years we moved to a bigger home with a spacious garden. Yes our beloved city of Amsterdam had to make place for the love of the dogs and our big dream of running our own kennel. This is how "Blazing Bronze" was founded.
